Summer is here, and while three months sounds like a long time right now, they’ll go by in a flash. The time is now to decide to make the most of every day! Here are four kid-friendly activities to do this summer that are fun, educational, and perfect for creating amazing memories.
Tend to a Garden
There’s nothing like planting a tiny seed and watching it grow into something beautiful. Whether you grow a small pot of flowers or herbs in a pot on a windowsill or rent a plot at one of Redland’s three community gardens , gardening is a great opportunity to bond as a family. And at the end of the season, you can use your herbs or veggies to make a delicious meal together!
Take a look at these ideas for vegetables that you can plan in midsummer.
Get Musical
Music is amazing: It can help you relax at the end of a long day or encourage you to get active. Here are some musical activities you can do with your kids:
- Play musical statues : Turn on some music and have everyone else dance to the beat. Without warning them, press pause. Everyone has to freeze in whatever position they were in. If anyone moves before you press play again, they’re out. Last person standing wins!
- Dance like an animal: Brainstorm some of your favorite animals and write them down on strips of paper. Everyone draws a piece of paper, and when you turn on the music, dance how you imagine that animal would.
- Learn about music together: The more you understand about music, the more you love it! Learn simple music theory in a fun way through online courses or videos .
Have Family Field Days
Find a spot at the park and play some good old outdoor games ! You could do a water balloon toss, play “pass the baton,” or hold a three-legged race. Being active together will make for a great time and great memories.
Do a Science Experiment
There are lots of kid-friendly science experiments , and chances are you have the supplies you need at home! From making snow fluff to a paper hovercraft, there’s something for every child. Plus, you may remember some forgotten scientific principles from your school days.
Summer is here, so it’s time to make some memories! Try these four kid-friendly activities for some fun times your family will never forget.
